Situated just 5 mins from the park, Glamis castle is the stuff of
legends and fairytales. It was the childhood home of Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and birthplace of the present Queen's
younger sister, the late Princess Margaret Rose. The castle is also
famous as the legendary setting of Shakespeare's "Macbeth".
Glamis Castle has a fascinating history and has been the family
home of the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne since 1372 when Sir
John
Lyon was granted the thaneage of Glamis by King Robert II. In 1376
Sir John married the King's daughter, Princess Joanna. Since then
Glamis has been visited and lived in by many members of the Scottish
and British royal families.
The Castle boasts guided tours, gardens,
pinetum, nature trail, shops, licensed restaurant, play-area and
picnic area.
