Wee Red Toon

This quaint red sandstone town is also famously known as the birthplace of novelist JM Barrie, who created the much loved, children’s character Peter Pan. Look out for the statue of Peter Pan at the centre of winding and narrow cobbled streets, and visit the National Trust for Scotland’s imaginative exhibition featuring life-size figures, theatre posters and stage costumes. Be sure to visit the little washhouse, which inspired Barrie’s creation of the Wendy House in “Peter Pan”.

The Camera Obscura on Kirriemuir Hill offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, and birdwatchers and nature lovers will enjoy the RSPB nature reserve at Loch of Kinnordy, which is a mecca for wetland birds, offering wonderful bird-watching.

The “Kirriemuir Gateway to the Glens Museum” is well worth a visit. Situated in the Old Town House at the town centre the museum uses displays, models and computers to explore the past, present and future of Kirriemuir and the Glens.

The beautiful Kirriemuir Den is a natural amphitheatre and much loved local beauty spot. The ideal spot for a picnic or stroll it features winding walks, meandering burn, waterfall and playground.
